Be Des Moines' Super Hero Postcard Campaign:
We hope that everyone receiving this e-mail will be willing to send a positive postcard between NOW and SEPTEMBER 10 to the current owner of the Des Moines Masonic Home, encouraging him to preserve and revitalize the property. THE CENTRAL MESSAGE TO CONVEY IS:
BE DES MOINES' SUPERHERO
Preserve the Masonic Home and Grounds!
You can use a postcard of your own, or, find our superhero postcard template on our website at the top of this page, and print it out on cardstock on your home computer.
On the message side, please make sure you include the central message (provided above) and, if you have room, feel free to add a positive sentence or two of your own to talk about how you'd love to see a restaurant or cafe there, or artist studios, or a history museum, city hall, etc. This would really help Des Moines, which needs more economic development. Help the owner envision the dream! (And don't forget to sign your name!)
Then send to the following address (postcard stamps cost 56 cents):
Owner
Zenith Properties LLC
If you’re up for it, snap a selfie of yourself sending the postcard and share on social media with hashtag #preservelandmarkonthesound - and/or just send us an email letting us know you sent a postcard so we have some idea of how many went out.
Superhero Postcard Campaign Wrap-Up - Saturday September 7, 5-7 PM at Inkfish Gallery, 22220 7th Avenue S in Des Moines. Swing by Inkfish, check out their new art exhibit, and grab a free "Be Des Moines' Superhero" postcard to send if you haven't sent one off already.

Announcements Update! August 18th, 2024
Upcoming Des Moines City Council Meeting Rallies:
Thursday, September 12, 6 PM - Hazards and Drawbacks of Demolition of the Masonic Home
(this would be an especially good topic for nearby neighbors, hydrology engineers, people concerned with traffic/noise/air pollution associated with a major demolition project)
Thursday, October 24, 6 PM - Environmental and Community Benefits of Preserving the Masonic Home and Surrounding Grounds
(topics could include embodied carbon in the Masonic Home, rainwater absorption, tree canopy, wildlife habitat, birdwatching, climate change, community health and safety, recreation, events, etc.)
For local folks, we invite you to come to these meetings at Des Moines City Hall, 21630 11th Avenue S, and sign up to speak. Each speaker gets 3 minutes. If you’ve spoken before, you're welcome to speak again. We encourage you to wear green (that shows the Council how many folks in the audience are in support of preserving and revitalizing the Des Moines Masonic Home).
Or, if you’d prefer to send a comment via e-mail - use the topic headings we've bold-faced above and mail your comments to citycouncil@desmoineswa.gov
Meeting Start Time: 6 PM (please get there 5-10 minutes early)
Address: 21630 11th Avenue S, Des Moines
Attire: Please wear GREEN

Public Written Comments for the Draft EIS have been submitted by March 8th, 2024 and it is now closed.

It is not clear when a Final EIS will be issued.
If a demolition permit is issued, we are preparing a Go Fund Me page to raise funds for an attorney and to file an Administrative Appeal with the City and, if necessary, in King County Court.
We'll keep you updated with announcements on this website and by email.
Stay tuned!
